    Established in 1957, Shenyang Research Institute of Foundry (SRIF) is the largest state foundry institute in China. Foundry Institution of Chinese Mechanical Engineering Society, National Foundry Standardization Technique Committee, Productive Promotion Center of Foundry Industry and Supervision and Inspection Center of Molding Materials and Important Castings of Machinery Industry are attached it.
     SRIF is mainly engaged in research, development, dissemination and production of new foundry materials, processes, techniques and equipment concerned. Its research fields include: metal, non-metal, synthetic and compound materials, precise formation, process technology, computer application, non-pollution foundry technology and production technology of premium castings.
　　SRIF covers an area of more than 150,000 sq. m, of which its industrial base in South Zone takes up 50,000 sq. m，and the industrial base under construction in West Zone takes up 80,000 sq. m.
　　There are a great number of scientific and technical staff members in SRIF with over 100 professors, senior engineers, doctors and masters（researchers）.
　　Since the establishment of SRIF, it has undertaken many important research projects: projects for war industry, Natural Science Fund projects and etc. Many scientific research project achievements and patent applications have been made. The institute has trained a great number of masters specialized in foundry.
　　Now, SRIF has two industrial bases. At the bases, the production of special steel castings, large aluminum alloy castings, titanium alloy castings and products, foundry raw and auxiliary materials, electrical sources of medium frequency, electro-slag remelting castings and AOD steel refining is carried out. Advanced domestic and foreign production technology is adopted at the base which combines the functions of research, development and production in itself. The base has supplied a great many of high quality castings and products for the development of national new weapon system, for the necessary accessories of domestic space flight equipment, for the construction of large hydro-electric power stations at home and abroad. It has also supplied melting equipment to many foreign enterprises and got words of praise from them.
